400;\">Instagram<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> chief Adam Mosseri told staff in an internal memo that all U.S. employees with assigned desks must return to the office five days a week from 2 February 2026 (making it much stricter than Meta\u2019s other divisions, which stay on a three-day hybrid schedule). The memo frames the move as part of a push to make Instagram \u201cmore nimble and creative\u201d as competition increases, and Mosseri says teams are \u201cmore creative and collaborative\u201d when working together in person.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The memo also lays out a set of \u201chow we work\u201d changes meant to make office time more useful. Recurring meetings will be canceled every six months unless they are \u201cabsolutely necessary,\u201d employees are encouraged to protect focus time by declining low-value meetings, and teams are urged to build more prototypes instead of relying on slide decks. Mosseri also acknowledges pressure ahead, saying 2026 will be tough, but argues these changes will help the company move faster with more \u201ccreativity, boldness, and craft.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-beb43a2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"beb43a2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Microsoft<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b3e02e8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b3e02e8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In September 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.microsoft.com\/blog\/2025\/09\/09\/flexible-work-update\/\">Microsoft<\/a> announced that employees living near its offices will soon need to come in at least three days a week. The\u00a0updated return-to-office policy started Monday, February 23, 2026, beginning with employees in the Puget Sound area (the Seattle region). If someone lives within 50 miles of a Microsoft office there, they are expected to work on site at least three days a week.<\/p><p>This is a real shift for Microsoft because, until now, many employees could work remotely up to about half the time without manager approval. Under the new approach, Microsoft is setting a clear minimum, but it is not telling everyone which three days they must come in. Teams and managers decide the details, and some groups may ask for more than three days depending on the work.<\/p><p>The Seattle-area rollout is only the first phase, though. CEO David Ellison said working together in person is \u201cabsolutely vital\u201d for the company\u2019s culture and success, especially in a creative industry. From January 5, 2026, employees assigned to the Los Angeles and New York offices were expected to work on-site five days a week. The rollout was described as phased, with other locations, international teams, and some remote roles to be addressed later.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alongside the announcement, the company offered a voluntary severance (buyout) program for eligible staff who \u201ccannot or do not wish\u201d to return full-time, with a decision deadline in mid-September 2025. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrgrapevine.com\/us\/content\/article\/2025-11-13-600-staff-exit-paramount-skydance-over-office-return\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reports<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> later said around 600 employees took the buyout instead of returning, and filings put the cost at roughly $185 million.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ec999a5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"ec999a5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Novo Nordisk<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eb9717c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"eb9717c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In September 2025, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/world-at-work\/novo-nordisk-tells-staff-return-office-full-time-amid-ceos-revival-effort-2025-09-11\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Novo Nordisk<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> told staff that all office-based employees will need to be back in the office full-time starting January 1, 2026. This was a big change, because the company had previously allowed a mix of remote, hybrid, and flexible setups depending on the team and country. The bank\u2019s plan started January 5, 2026, when teammates who were on hybrid schedules were expected to work on site five days a week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This was not a sudden switch. Truist had already been tightening office attendance over time. Earlier, the bank moved many hybrid employees from three days a week in the office to four, and investment banking teams were pushed to five days even sooner. The January 2026 shift essentially makes the strictest standard the default for everyone who previously had a hybrid setup. Truist\u2019s move also fits a bigger pattern in banking, where several large institutions have been pushing harder for full-time office work. <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-beda116 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"beda116\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Kroger<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fd9eec3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"fd9eec3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In late November 2025, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/local12.com\/news\/local\/new-kroger-policy-require-requirement-office-mandate-employees-return-downtown-cincinnati-five-days-week-remote\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kroger<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> confirmed it will require corporate and office employees to work on site five days a week starting in January 2026, instead of working remotely.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kroger\u2019s EVP Tim Massa said the change is meant to simplify how the company works and help teams move faster, solve problems more quickly, and stay aligned while supporting stores, plants, and distribution centers that run around the clock. A company spokesperson said the update applies to Store Support Center associates, and local reporting said it impacts thousands of office workers in the Cincinnati area.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-648966b elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"648966b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Sherwin-Williams<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f794f9a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f794f9a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><a href=\"https:\/\/clevelandmagazine.com\/articles\/sherwin-williams-ends-hybrid-work-model-forcing-workers-back-to-the-office-next-year\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sherwin-Williams<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has moved its corporate teams back to the office five days a week. The company ended its \u201cGlobal Flexible Working\u201d hybrid policy (introduced in 2022) and replaced it with a much stricter in-office setup.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To add a little flexibility, Sherwin-Williams introduced a \u201cRemote Day Bank.\u201d Employees get 12 remote-work days per year, and they can use them in half-day chunks. There are also limits: people can use no more than two remote days per month, and unused days do not roll over. Outside of those limited days, employees are expected to be on site every workday.
